To start the match, it was Rhode Lane to kick off. However, quickly from the kick off, Matt Groves stole the ball quickly and made a pass through to Archie Summers who made it 1-0 to Watchet. Then, some great work from Josh Heath to win a corner for Watchet but the corner was defended. Some great attempts from Archie Summers, Matt Groves, Alex Tomlinson and Oliver Jones but Rhode Lane's keeper was keeping them out. Then suddenly, Rhode Lane's attack looked pretty promising, but Harvey Jones made a few key tackles to deny them a shooting opportunity. As the 15 minute mark hit, Oliver Jones played the ball into the box which was met by Matt Goves. Rather than take the opportunity, he layed the ball to Alex Tomlinson who buried the ball in the back of the net to make it 2-0. But, Rhode lane came back fighting as they played some short passes through the Watchet defense, but Liam Davis came out to meet the striker and made a vital save which put the ball behind for a corner. The corner looked promising but Lito Sax managed to deal with it. Continuing this passage of play, Alex Tomlinson managed to get in to the attacking 3rd of the field. Then with a nice piece of individual skill, found his way in to the box and scored his second goal of the day to make it 3-0 to Watchet. Then, straight from kick off, Rhode Lane made a passing error which led to Josh Heath taking on possession of the ball. He decided to have a crack on goal from about 30 yards out and a keeper error led to Watchet going 4-0 up. As the pressure was building up for Rhode Lane, they did manage to fight their way through Watchet's midfield and fire a shot away. But Luckily Liam Davis was switched on who read the shot and made a diving save to deny the shot and it was a Rhode Land corner. The ball was sent into the box and was
met by a Rhode Lane player to make the score 4-1. From the kick off, Watchet slowed down their play and held the possession comfortably. Then, Matt Groves sent a through ball to Alex Tomlinson on the edge of the box. Alex then layed the ball across to Abel for an easy tap in to make it 5-1. Three minutes later, Alex scores his third goal of the game to make it his hat trick 6-1. A defensive error from Rhode Lane sends Archie though to score an easy placement shot in the bottom corner 7-1. The, just before the halftime whistle, Oliver Jones breaks down the right wing and plays a grounded cross in to the box and Archie meets it and scores his hat trick 8-1.
Watchet then get the second half kick off. Archie Summers gets a promising run past the Rhode Lane defense and goes 1 on 1 with the keeper. The keeper accidentally misses the ball and clatters with Archie Summers which sweeps him off his feet. Luckily, both players were okay and the referee gives a penalty. An unlikely choice to take the penalty, Liam Davis steps up to the opportunity. He send the ball hard and low in to the bottom left corner, but the keeper manages to stretch and save the ball. The keeper then plays a counter attacking pass towards Watchet's half. However, Oliver Jones reads this pass and pounces on it. Gliding past two Rhode Lane defenders, he works his way into the box and scores Watchet's 9th goal, 9-1. Rhode Lane were dropping their heads a little and from the kick off, Watchet capitalized on it by gaining back possession. Matt Goves plays a pass to Samir Abraham who shoots and the keeper manages to get to it. But, it hits off the keeper and the post and rolls over the line luckily 10-1. Still, hungry for goals Samir Abraham goes down the right wing past the left back and plays an easy cross in to Archie Summers who scores a tap in 11-1. Just as an hour of play went past, Samir Abraham plays a textbook pass to Abel on the edge of the box, who takes the opportunity and gets his second goal of the game 12-1. Some nice holding play from Josh Heath in the midfield to let the Watchet attackers make some runs. Josh picks out a pass to Matt Groves who is 25 yards out and hits a shot. The ball nestles in to the top corner which was Watchet's last goal of the game. Heading into the last 10 minutes of the game, the ref made a call which caused a bit of controversy. Liam Davis was holding on to the ball for too long he claims and decided to give an indirect free kick inside of the Watchet box. Despite the fact it was indirect, Rhode Lane decided to have a crack at goal but put the ball straight into the wall. Within the dying seconds, Harvey Jones plays a pass to Shea Jackson who then has an attempt on goal from quite far out but the keeper manages to deal with it. The final whistle then blew to conclude the game which ended 13-1 to Watchet Town. Watchet will be playing Rhode Lane again next week at their home ground in the cup.
