Last Sunday, Watchet Town Under 15’s hosted Minehead U15’s. A highly awaited game for both sides. The teams have not played each other competitively in over two years, and with Watchet only just joining the league they were sure to be the underdogs. The game started with both sides eager to put away the first goal. Joshua Heath and Samir Abraham showing their ability in the midfield role, moving the ball around looking for the wide pass to either Alex Tomlinson or Oliver Jones. Not to mention, Saul Denton supporting Sam Bruford in an attacking role. Minehead, having the experience, tested the Watchet defence early in the first half a number of times but did not score. Much like Watchet's two previous games, the defence stood strong with Jack Robinson playing a sweeper role just behind Declan Morgan-Phillips. Beside him, were Archie Summers and Stephen Amery. Minehead continued to press the Watchet defence, but took no effect until about fifteen minutes in. Minehead struck the post. Watchet started to look for the break at every opportunity, and when they did, they put Minehead on the back foot in the 25th Minute. Watchet came close to opening the scoring from a well struck shot that hit the underneath of the cross bar. The play continued in end to end play. Both teams looking for a way through and testing each other's keeper. Half time, the score was 0-0. In the second half, Watchet made some substitutions. On came Alex Towells for Stephen Amery and Matthew Groves came on for Saul Denton. The second half continued from where the game had left off before. Half time, with both teams looking for the shot and taking it when it was there. Some great battles in midfield, both teams challenging hard but fair for possession of the ball. But, it was fifteen minutes into the 2nd half when Watchet found the space they needed to put away the first goal of the game. From a well-executed move, Joshua Heath found Sam Bruford who held the ball up looking for Oliver Jones who hit the ball into the back to Mineheads net 1-0. Play continued with Minehead eager to get back into the game; which almost came off for Minehead with a fine run. Passing through their midfielder and getting a good pass in to strike. A well taken shot had it not been for Liam Davis who all day had worked hard denying Minehead. In the 65th minute Watchet again found the back of Mineheads goal from Watchet's top goal scorer Oliver Jones 2-0. In the last 15 minutes, the game and with eagerness to score Minehead ran at Watchet and found more and more space. Due to tired legs, increased their shooting opportunities. But the Watchet defence continued to clear the ball and Watchet goal keeper saved some outstanding shots. The game ended 2 -0 a great result for leagues new comers. Three wins from three games conceding only 1 goal. Next game Watchet are away to Tone Youth Hornets 23rd November.
